Based on our experience, here is where most websites fail…
Just about every business has a website, however only about 20% of all websites actually work as a marketing tool. The main purpose of the website is to promote your product, brand or service. However majority of business owners forget that when they start putting their website together.
We have put together a checklist of “must haves” in order to run an efficient website.
Does your website have a clear call-to-action?
When customers find your website, what are they most likely looking for? Usually it is contact information (address, phone number), list of services or products and prices.
Is your website consistent?
Does your website have the same formatting, logos and colours throughout the website?
Sadly, most websites have inconsistent navigation and call-to-actions throughout the website.
Is your website accessible?
Does your website appear properly in different browsers (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox)? Can you view it properly using mobile devices (iPhone, Android, iPad).
Try not to use Flash components on your website as it usually does not display on most devices.
Is your content relevant and updated?
If you have a closer look in Google, for just about any query that you type you get relevant information. This is really the key to websites and information online. Ask yourself, what your existing and new clients would want to see on your website.
Most websites are hardly updated and users do not get to see any new relevant content. This is usually because updating website is too difficult or requires external services. Using content management systems (CMS) this problem can be easily solved. Ask your web developer if CMS functionality is available.
Must have pages?
Does your website have About us, Contact, Privacy Policy and Disclaimer page? These pages are crucial according to Google as should be able to see how their information might be used if they choose to deal with your business.
Complex forms?
Does your website have enquiry form which is too complicated? You need to make sure that your forms are simple and support their real purpose. For example, an enquiry form should have name, email, phone and enquiry fields.
When a form asks for too many fields to be filled out, it seems too complicated and users tend not to proceed with them.
Also make sure that the form works and notifications are provided to the user that their request has been received.
We hope that you find our website checklist helpful and are looking forward to finding you on top of Google more often.
